Felt Food – Take 2: Cakes

Published by Kristen on

The most popular type of felt food that is made is sweets, so I wanted to try my hand at making something completely from my own idea. Most kids love to pretend that they are cooking and have toys that are more interactive, so my concept was to have cakes that had multiple tiers for decorating with strips of felt and themed decorations. Since it was fall time, I thought it would be fun to have three different fall themed decorating sets for the cakes – Apple, Acorn, and Pumpkin. What I didn’t realize was that to have decorations that were cake scale they would end up very small, which equals kids putting them in their mouth and the pieces getting lost. If I did it all over again, I would either sew them in bunches or sew them directly onto a “frosting” cover.

Also pictured is one of the 1st Birthday cakes that I did. It was my go-to 1st birthday gift for little girls and I tried really hard to make it durable. Looking back, it probably wasn’t the most practical 1st birthday gift ever, but it’s a cute memory.
