Personal Mission Statement

Published by Kristen on

At work we were encouraged to draft our Personal Mission Statement. Normally I’d skip this because it sounds so cheesy, but God has really been impressing on my heart lately to really figure out how he has uniquely called me.

The irony is that I could have no better mission statement than the one that the Navigators crafted many years ago: “To Know Christ and to Make Him Known®”. The fantastic thing about this statement is both in it’s brevity and in it’s power. We could spend an entire lifetime and still never fully know Christ. We could talk to every person we met about Jesus and still be trying to make Him known on our death bed.

What is beautiful about the living God is that while our mission and purpose can be the same thing, how we live it out will be unique to the person whom God created us to be.

Last weekend I was particularly discouraged that many of my efforts to live out how God created me – sharing our home, providing a place of fellowship, creating special things for people, and inspiring people on this blog – were not going anywhere. I’d love to say that I immediately took it to the Lord in prayer, but mostly I just pouted in my room until I fell asleep. When I woke up and went to my husband he encouraged me not to give up and then I looked to God’s Word. It’s amazing what a little bit of encouragement can do. Hebrews 10:23-25 has particularly been on my mind all week and it came up today in my Bible reading plan.

How has the Lord used you to encourage others? How can you make time to be an encourager?

So beautifully written and true; you have a heart for others and for God.
